Be Haute: How to Dress Like a Model

2 min

Seeing all those seemingly perfect models in magazines and your social media feeds can be quite distracting, especially if you’re suffering from lack of self-esteem and other body image-related issues. Let’s be honest here: it’s difficult to look like a supermodel if you’re not built like one, and if you lack resources for high-end products and treatments that can help you look your best. However, that should never stop you, so here are some tips that will help you dress and look like you’ve just finished walking the runway.

1. Pick the clothes that suit your body type

You might be tempted to buy certain clothes that get advertised to you, but before you impulsively click “add to cart”, make sure to take a second and think things through. Don’t be persuaded by retouched images online, instead, take some time to learn about your body type and find appropriate clothes that can accentuate the positive and visually hide negative parts of your body. That way, you’ll look great at all times, even if you’re just shopping for groceries.

2. Your posture and walk matter a lot

You might think that your posture and walk aren’t that important, but in reality, these things matter the most. There is no point in wearing even the most fashionable clothes if you actually have issues with posture. Stretching, doing yoga and various other exercises can help you improve your posture, and being focused every time you walk while keeping your head high will surely make you look more attractive and self-assured. Always keep in mind that the way you carry yourself can make you look better than wearing expensive clothes.

3. Dress to feel good, not to impress

Sometimes, it’s easy to get tempted and buy extravagant pieces of clothes that look good on a pop singer or an actor walking the red carpet. Still, keep in mind that some pieces of clothes aren’t made for offices or outdoor cafés, but simply for showing off. However, you should stay away from showing off your clothes, as that is the wrong way to dress and approach fashion in general. Your style should be something you do to feel good about yourself, and not to impress people that don’t matter in the long run.

4. When in doubt, accessorize

Even the most boring outfit can be transformed by adding a statement piece of jewelry. So, if you feel like you have nothing to wear, maybe it’s time to go through your jewelry box and find something interesting. If you’re not a fan of jewelry, you can always treat yourself to a couple of new pieces. In case you don’t know what to choose, keep in mind that the beauty of jade stone will truly add a new dimension to anything you wear, so feel free to check out different rings, necklaces and even watches, as chances are you’ll like pairing them even with a pair of jeans and a plain T-shirt.

5. Be inspired by the right people

Looking up to supermodels seems like the only option, but in today’s age of social media, finding other fashion inspirations is easier than ever. There are numerous influencers, bloggers, vloggers and other social media personalities, and what’s even better, they’re all so diverse, so you can actually look for someone who is relatable and fun to follow. Thanks to body positivity change, you can get inspired by different people, without feeling like you’re lacking something, just because you’re not tall and slim.

Dressing like a model starts from within, however, skinny jeans, a nicely tailored jacket and a pair of biker boots can always come in handy if you’re looking for a casual, yet elegant outfit for a quick drink with friends. Keep in mind to wear clothes that suit your body type, and always work on your inner self-confidence and posture, as these are sure ways to look like a model no matter what you wear.
